We’re all about free camping… and with our van, why not? No matter what the weather, if we can find a place to park, we can spend the night. We recently came across John Martin Reservoir trying to find a good fishing spot and it’s also a great spot for bird watching.
There are pit toilets, plenty of room for RVs, tents, whatever you’ve got.. just be aware there are free ranging cattle in this area so when you hear something outside your tent, know its most likely them.
Our last trip here was to avoid a snow storm hitting southern Colorado, so we headed east. Managed to get out of the storm and spent a day “inside” to avoid the nasty wind/rain/slush coming down. Spotted a ton of birds but we’ll have to try the fishing out next time..
